2FA methods supported by Apple
Apple offers the following two-factor authentication options to help protect your account.
SMS
Apple can send a one-time verification code to your phone via text message.
Phone call
Apple can call your phone and read out a verification code.
Security key (U2F)
Apple works with hardware security keys using the U2F/FIDO standard.
Proprietary app
Apple offers its own companion app for approving sign-ins.
U2F requires a minimum of two security keys to be registered.
